NCC. Norwalk Community College
occupies over 30 acres on the Norwalk-Darien border. More than
11,000 students are enrolled in the Degree Programs
and
Extended Studies & Workforce Education. With them, we enjoy the spacious, modern classrooms on the east and west
campuses.
LLI
is an independent institute for lifelong learning within
a college. NCC gives us a home, provides us with
offices, meeting rooms, classrooms, services, use of the
fine library, help in many forms, advice when asked for,
and the invaluable prestige of a large sheltering
institute - making us feel a part of the College.
Our members
volunteer services to NCC, such as mentoring, library assistance, rush
mailings, registration-day help, and participation in Foundation
fundraising. Many
LLI members are volunteers in the NCC
Conversation Partners program for ESL students.

LLI and the NCC
Foundation |
The NCC Foundation
In
its efforts to provide comprehensive, innovative and
affordable learning opportunities for diverse
populations throughout southwestern Connecticut, the
college is supported by the Norwalk Community College
Foundation.
It seeks funds from contributions and grants to be used for
operating expenses, special projects, building improvements and
endowments. Individuals and organizations contribute during the Annual Appeal,
or Planned Giving, or in ways of their own.
LLI contributions to the
Foundation
The LLI treasury takes in money for membership dues and
course fees to pay its own expenses and have a year-end (May)
surplus for contributions to the Foundation. The LLI Board
earmarks most of the money for special purposes, school
departments, and LLI Scholarship Awards. Each year, at
least $1,000 goes to the LLI Scholarship Endowment. |
|
|
LLI
Scholarship Awards
Every spring, the Institute
offers tuition scholarships to NCC students working
toward careers in Human Services, Nursing or
Recreation. The winners, selected by the Scholarship
Committee, receive their awards (via the Foundation) at the LLI Annual Meeting.

|
LLI Scholarship Endowment:
funded mainly by member contributions
LLI members are asked several times a year to contribute
to the Foundation. The money can be earmarked for the LLI
Scholarship Endowment, the new Health and
Science Building or as unrestricted giving.
In 1995 LLI established the Endowment within the Foundation
with a promise of $1,000 a year from the treasury. Due to
the generosity of the members, the current balance is
over $160,000. From the interest generated, the Foundation awards scholarships to NCC students. |
